MUSEUM
Maxwell Museum of Anthropology is a four star facility. It is tucked away inside the University of New Mexico campus and offers an intimate setting that is chuck full of treasures from our ancestors and people of the Southwest. Open TUE-FRI 9am-4pm; Sat 10am– 4pm. Free admission. Ask us for directions and parking instructions. While on campus, take a stroll around the duck pond and enjoy nature!

Another great museum pick is the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center — very close by and we can take you there!  Ask us about it. It is a great place to learn about NM Pueblos and experience some of their unique culture. There are also day trips from here to Acoma and Zuni Pueblos.

NEW MEXICAN FOOD
Of course, the Albuquerque Bar and Grill has a mean burrito and great huevos that are served for breakfast and lunch! I like the atmosphere at the Church Street Café in Old Town (located right behind the San Felipe de Neri Church) and they have good enchiladas and margaritas to boot. Ask to sit in the patio, and if you’re lucky Jose Salazar, a renowned flamenco guitarist, may be there to entertain you. Moderately priced.

MEXICAN FOOD
My absolute favorite place is called Los Equipales. They serve traditional Mexican fare, including seafood. The food is lovingly prepared, and can’t be beat in my opinion. Also, on Friday and Saturday nights, they have outstanding musicians, and they will play any of your favorite songs table side. Located at 4500 Silver SW, one block south of Central and a few blocks west of San Mateo, at the corner of Jefferson and Silver. Open at 11 AM, closed on Mondays.

OLD TOWN
Take the Ghost Tour, it is an informative and entertaining tour of Old Town. Take the 8 PM tour to get the full effect. They have a ticket window in Don Luis Plaza—Adults $20. It is worth it. You will learn about the legends, lore and hidden nooks and crannies of old Albuquerque.

JEWELRY
Check out Gertrude Zachery’s at 15th and Central, or my preferred location in Nob Hill at 3300 Central NE. You can find traditional or contemporary pieces, and the Nob Hill location has antiquities also. Nob Hill is a great place for shopping in little shops with nice owners and art from local craftspeople and artists from around the world. Lots of good restaurants in the area too! Flying Star is a favorite of mine.  Desserts to die for!
